I recently posted my personal opinion on signs and symbols.
And I’m not saying this is a sign of anything, though I suspect some would.
For me, while the thought did, in true Rowan Atkins style, for the briefest of brief moments…fly across my mind that there was a message I was missing…
The stronger thought that blocked all others, made me shiver, and want to stop looking at the hellish thing while at the same time not want to take my eyes off of it….
Was “Eewwww effin Ewwwww…WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU? AND WHY DO YOU KEEP COMING HERE?”
Yes…I’ve seen him/it/that before.
Once.
Last Friday.
Filming the documentary I’ve shared with some of you.
And no one in the crew had ever seen one before then either.
It showed up and hovered like a harbinger of things to come.
(I know…drama, drama, drama)
But seriously?
What am I talking about?
This…
And this…
Add to it the sound of a dentists’ drill while it hovered (NOT JOKING) for 20 minutes (NOT EXAGGERATING) in front of my kitchen window, staring in like there was something it just HAD to tell me, or hoping I’d open the window because I looked like LUNCH…and you’ve got yourself the makings of the next SCREAM movie.
I spent an hour online trying to find out what this thing is…obviously some sort of yellow jacket, or yellow wasp, or yellow bee…but nada!
And since every hair on my body was standing on end just looking at all the images of REGULAR yellow jackets, wasps, and bees…I couldn’t take another second of it!
It was about and inch and a half long, two, feathery, antennae on it’s nose, the legs curled under like it was holding something, and it was very, very, patient.
FLYING CREEPY THING…BE GONE!
THERE IS NOTHING FOR YOU HERE!
GET THEE BACK TO THE HELL FROM WHENCE YOU CAME!
In the meantime, if anyone knows what this horrid thing is…please share.
Please?
If I see it again, there’s no telling what I’ll do, especially if I’m outside!
Wow – I can’t believe you captured it so beautifully, but yes, ew…..

i think its a hornet – and yes be very scared of it, they can kill – we don’t have them here in the uk but i have seen them stop traffic in latvia

you have no hornets? that’s just plain un-american. oh, um, yes…i see where that wouldn’t matter. you have a decided lack of a LOT of creepy crawlies we have here…lucky you. i think it’s some sort of hornet also…yet cannot find one single picture or description of this one anywhere. i’ve never seen one hang out in the same spot for as long as this one does. it’s down right….alien! and how does a hornet stop traffic? that would be something to see.

it did what your’s did – and it looked identical – it just hovered in one place and forced everyone off the sidewalk and hence, stopped the traffic

i shall investigate the yellow jackets of latvia then…i may find a clue.

i’m guessing that its not just latvia but all of the old soviet union

oh…so i’m looking for communist yellow jackets? perhaps i should look into ‘red jackets?’ 😉

haha – i think the communist hornets lost – maybe that’s why they are so angry lol – vestiges of communism live on tho – our health system is a good example – although commie hornet stings are not covered 😆

Haha. Good point!

I believe that is a humming bird moth, but WHERE are the antenna?
The good news is, they have no sting, but dress up like a bee to scare away predators, and photographer-ladies too!

the antenna were two red feathery things on the nose…at least that’s what i saw.

Honey, I just looked, and it is a drone fly. European initially, but introduced over here. The good news: No stinger and it wants flower nectar. The bad: It is one scary mother-effing looking bug.

A drone fly? A drone of what? and Yay for you for finding it. I hadn’t noticed until it was mentioned here about the lack of stinger…thank God! And yeah, if this is a drone, I do NOT want to meet it’s Queen! Thanks SFAM

But…i looked and didn’t see a photo like the one here…no where near as big. However, the lack of stinger is a comfort.

Not like any hornet we’ve seen and doesn’t look to have a sting in the tail. Great capture of an alien, flying beastie.
